A Natural & Holistic Clinical Approach to Healing
Thousands of people across the United States, Canada, and Mexico have found relief from anxiety, stress, and trauma with the guidance of skilled facilitators in the Overcome! program over the past two decades.
The full Overcome! program is an affordable, evidence-based series developed by Genevieve Yellen of Sundara Yoga Therapy that has been researched in conjunction with Dr. Keri Heilman of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Dr. Stephen Porges of Indiana University and UNCSM. Dr. Porges is a leading researcher and founder of The Traumatic Stress Research Consortium and developer of the Polyvagal Theory.
The Overcome! program is designed with the utmost care for those who suffer from stress, overwhelm, fear, and anxiety; including those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and unresolved trauma. The program can be adapted by the facilitator to meet your individual needs.
Common effects of stress and anxiety that will be addressed in this program:
- Panic attacks
- Difficulty concentrating
- Excess anxiety and worry that is out of proportion to the situation
- Fear of death or fear of illness causing death
- Excessive sweating, palpitations, and shortness of breath
- Gastrointestinal issues
- Muscle tension and shakiness
- Restlessness, feeling keyed-up, or “on the edge”
- Sleep disturbances (difficulty falling or staying asleep; or restless, unsatisfying sleep)
The full 8-10 hour Overcome! program, as well as a new 4-session mini program, are now available as individual or group online experiences! Find out more here:
Even when the program is taught in a group setting, it is a personal experience- there are no group activities and you will never be asked to speak publicly. Presentations are given with visual aids (PowerPoint slides, videos, handouts, etc), and all work is private (you are not asked to turn in suggested journal responses for the self-study work). Online group participants have the ability to remain anonymous with other group members.
Mindful awareness and attention are given to accommodate those that are not comfortable in social situations. I am open to allowing a spouse, friend, or family member to attend in-person sessions with you if that support feels right.
Finding relief from overwhelm, stress, and anxiety is the main focus.
The main focus of this series is providing you with education about the underlying causes and natural treatments for stress and anxiety, including a step-by-step process to create your own self-healing program that you can practice daily (in your own home).
The information given in each meeting is intended to be worked through in the time between sessions. A short daily commitment is required to defeat anxiety and associated conditions – although it is not a quick fix, you will immediately learn ways to calm your nervous system.
In this program, we get to the root of the problem – programming errors in our nervous systems!
We sense danger when none is around – typically the residue of past experiences that are locked into a mind/body connection that continues to elicit warnings that stress our nervous systems and cause debilitating symptoms.
For in-person clinics, I will provide you with a workbook, audio recordings with guided practices, sequence sheets, and a self-regulation toolbox to help you uncover your inner power and gain control over your runaway nervous system. Similar materials will be available to download for online sessions.
You will be introduced to a neuropsychological explanation of triggers, what is happening internally when triggered, and the process of reprogramming your responses to get rid of triggers.
The conscious use of self-healing tools is profoundly liberating when combating the debilitating effects of anxiety and feelings of being stuck.
In addition, you will learn simple breathwork, meditation, and gentle movement techniques that help to break the psychological, behavioral, biochemical, and somatic cycles that keep anxiety in your life, and to eventually overcome anxiety completely.
More often than not, people who experience chronic dysregulation have compromised bodily awareness and a sense of being out of control of their body/mind. In the first class, we jump right into learning how to “down-regulate” the fight or flight response or to “up-regulate” feelings of being shut down and discover how to “turn on” the relaxation response.
These are tools for managing difficult moments as we work on the long-term project of re-programming your neural networks to break triggers, thereby regaining control of your nervous system and your inner peace circuitry.
The more you know about stress and anxiety and how to defeat it, the more empowered you become to drive your own self-healing journey.
